Remove background from image online, free and unlimited

Upload a photo, remove the background with AI in seconds, and download a transparent PNG or add a white, colored, or blurred backdrop. No signup, original resolution, and your image never leaves your device.

WORKFLOW

How to remove the background from an image in 3 steps

  1. 01

Upload your image and pick the quality

Drag a photo, paste it with Ctrl+V, or select it from your device. Fast (~44–88 MB) works for products, objects, and most photos; Higher precision (~219 MB) handles hair and fur better. The model downloads only the first time.

  2. 02

Check the cutout and choose a background

Drag the slider to inspect the edges. Keep the background transparent, make it white for an online store, pick a color, upload a custom background image, or adjust the blur level.

  3. 03

    Download or keep editing

Download your image as a PNG or WebP at original resolution, or send it in one click to compress PNG or crop image to continue editing without re-uploading or leaving your browser.

USE CASES

What it is used for

Product photos for online stores

Isolate the product and give it a pure white (#FFFFFF) background, the one Amazon, eBay, or Shopify ask for, without opening an editor.

Portraits and profile pictures

Higher precision keeps stray hairs, glasses, and semi-transparent edges looking more natural.

Logos, stickers, and illustrations

Keep the background transparent and download a PNG or WebP for your website or designs.

Thumbnails, slides, and collages

Cut out people or objects or swap their background for thumbnails, slides, or compositions.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about removing image backgrounds

Are there any usage limits, or do I need an account? +
No daily limits, credits, or registration required: you can remove backgrounds from as many images as you like, completely free. The only technical limitations are a 50 MB file size limit and your device’s available memory (on phones with limited RAM, try to avoid massive multi-megapixel files).
Are my photos uploaded to an external server? +
No. All processing happens entirely within your web browser, so your images never leave your computer or phone—unlike most online background removers that upload your files to the cloud. On your initial visit, only the AI model and runtime engine are downloaded and cached locally, meaning it can even work offline afterward.
Does it reduce image quality or add a watermark like other tools? +
Not at all. While services like remove.bg often restrict free downloads to low-res previews or charge credits for full quality, OptimizeImg exports your PNG or WebP at full original resolution with zero watermarks.
Can I keep a transparent background or choose a solid color? +
Yes. By default, removing the background outputs a clean transparent PNG, ready for graphics, e-commerce listings, or pitch decks. If you prefer a solid backdrop (like pure white for Amazon or Shopify), you can pick any color before downloading.
What is the difference between Fast and Higher precision? +
Fast (~44–88 MB) uses the lightweight ormbg model—it downloads quickly and excels at products, sharp portraits, and distinct objects. Higher precision (~219 MB) uses the BEN2 model, which takes longer to download initially but delivers significantly cleaner cutout edges around flyaway hair, animal fur, and intricate silhouettes. If Fast leaves rough edges on a tricky photo, switch to Higher precision.
Does it work across all modern browsers? +
Yes, on modern desktop and mobile browsers alike. When your browser supports WebGPU, it harnesses your graphics card (GPU) to cut out backgrounds in seconds. If WebGPU isn’t available, it automatically falls back to CPU-powered WASM—which may take a bit longer on large photos or in Higher precision mode, but works reliably.
What kinds of images are difficult to cut out? +
Photos where the subject blends into the background, shots with heavy motion blur, or transparent elements (such as glassware, smoke, or veils) can produce imperfect boundaries. In those situations, try Higher precision mode and use the before/after slider to inspect the edges prior to saving.
